Posted on: April 23, 2019[ARCHIVED] Letter Carriers Coordinate Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on May 11

Westmont, Illinois
Date Issued: April 23, 2019
Every second Saturday in May, letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America participate in the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the nation. The drive has delivered more than one billion pounds of food in the past 26 years. Carriers collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices, and then deliver the donations to local community food banks, pantries, and shelters.
“Last year, we had a record amount of food donations,” said Hank Anzelone, Food Pantry Supervisor for Peoples Resource Center (PRC) in Westmont. “PRC’s Westmont location distributes over 12,000 pounds of food each week. A food drive like this is very welcome.”
Anzelone has volunteered for PRC since 2002 and played an instrumental role in opening the Westmont location. He has been the Food Pantry Supervisor for the past 11 years. Hank has also been a Westmont resident since moving here with his wife in 1972. In 2012, Anzalone won the Westmont Citizen of the Year Award.
To make a donation, just place a bag of non-perishable food items next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers mail on Saturday, May 11, 2019. The carrier will do the rest.
