Per the Village's contract with Waste Management, the cost for refuse increases annually on the first of May. This year the rate increase included additional services including allowing heavier garbage containers, unlimited free leaf pickup for a four-week period in the fall, and one week of free leaf pickup in the spring.
While the Village performs billing, and can serve as an interface between residents and Waste Management, all fees received by the Village for recycling and garbage collection are passed directly on to Waste Management.
Additionally, the DuPage Water Commission has increased its water rates effective May 1. At the May 23, 2019 Village Board Meeting, the Village Board will consider an increase to water rates to include this increase as well as the incremental annual increase needed to address water utility infrastructure maintenance needs.
As part of the long-range focus of the Strategic Plan, the Public Works Department conducted a study in 2016 to look at the long-term impact of water rates and infrastructure needs. These needs include replacement of aging water mains, water meters, a water tower, and building a new north water tower to provide additional water storage.
To meet these infrastructure needs, while remaining competitive with water rates from other communities, the Village has approved incremental rate adjustments over the next several years.
